Mr. Ed Ellison speaks in the eleventh and twelfth grade chapel service. Mr. Ellison spoke on the subject of college decisions and patience.

Mr. Ed Ellison, one of two candidates for the next Head of St. George’s and current Headmaster at St. John’s Country Day School in Orange Park, Florida, visited the Collierville Campus on Dec. 12 and spoke at the eleventh and twelfth grade chapel service.

Mr. Ellison is originally from Boston and attended Tufts University in Medford, MA, and ran for the track team there.

Mr. Ellison is currently interviewing for the position of headmaster at St. George’s, and his speech in the chapel was a continuation of his interviewing process.

Mr. Ellison’s speech was all about his experience with waiting for college acceptances, and his later rejection from Bowdoin College. The basis of his speech was his thoughts on the idea that the future is in God’s hands, which applied to the current situation of upcoming college decisions for upper school students.

“Waiting doesn’t always get us what we want because God has other plans,” Mr. Ellison said.

He concluded the speech by saying that he did not know what God’s plan for him was but that “before Christmas, we’re all going to know,” in relation to St. George’s search for a head to replace Mr. Taylor.

Mr. Ellison continued the interview process by having lunch with the prefects after his chapel presentation.
