Biology students visit Bulldog Pond for classes

Juniors Nick Bourdeau, Griffin Gilliam, Lathan Spadafora and Parker Ruffin walk into the pond in their waders. The trip to Bulldog Pond coincided with the grade’s introduction to the ecosystem.

Upper school biology teacher Mr. Sam Abrams took his honors and regular biology classes to Bulldog Pond on Oct. 15, 17 and 18 to help introduce them to their upcoming chapter on the biosphere, the region of the earth and atmosphere in which living organisms exist.

While the students were at the lake, a group of four would put on waders, an extremely high pair of boots attached to waterproof overalls, then drag a net along the bottom of the lake to collect animals living at the bottom of the lake.

At least 17 animals were discovered in total among the classes. The biggest fish, a red ear sunfish, was discovered when honors period three biology went to the lake.
