St. George’s varsity cheer squad has their show night tonight at 7:30. They have been practicing since the summer.

The St. George’s varsity cheer squad departs for the National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida tomorrow morning. Their show night, in which they will perform their routines for students and faculty, will take place tonight in the St. George’s McNeill Gym at 7:30.

After cheering at football games in the fall, the squad began their competition season. They placed sixth in their division at regionals on Nov. 1 and third in their division at state on Nov. 15, earning a bid to nationals from both competitions.

According to senior Ashley McDuffie, the cheer squad hopes to make it to finals this year at nationals. In 2008, the squad placed fourth at nationals, but they have not made it past preliminaries since then. However, they are confident that this year will be different.

The squad is looking forward to show night tonight and hope that everyone will be in attendance.

“We have worked really hard on our routine and are really looking forward to showing it to everyone tonight,” said senior Hallie Gillam.
