Jake Farrell presents $500 to Connor Lambert, as well as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and St. George’s, in honor of his work with the foundation. Last year, Connor and Benjamin raised $459 for JDRF through their annual coin drive.

When freshman Connor Lambert was in sixth grade, he decided that he wanted to become more involved with JDRF, or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, to “raise awareness and fundraise for its cause.” That following summer, his brother, Benjamin, a sixth grader, was diagnosed with type-one diabetes, at which time Benjamin was only in third grade and Connor in sixth.

This diagnosis inspired both Connor and Benjamin to continue working with JDRF and work to make a stronger impact on the St. George’s community, which they achieve today by helping plan the JDRF walk and raising awareness for it, as well as hosting fundraisers to raise money for the cause.

“[Working with JDRF] has made me become more aware of what I can do to help others,” Connor Lambert said. “It’s really more of a humbling experience.”

Last year, Connor Lambert, as well as JDRF and St. George’s, were granted $500 by Landmark Bank for his work with the foundation and raising money for the walk. Through coin drives, Connor and Benjamin raised $459 last year and $636 this year.

“I feel that he’s an exemplary young person for participating in such a thing and spreading the word to the student body,” Mr. Marques Brown, who is the director of Theatre Arts and Connor’s advisor, said. “I think we need more of that kind of thing happening.”
