Self care is the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one’s mental, emotional, and physical self. Anyone and everyone can take part in this activity in whatever fashion they choose.

1. Home-made face masks

  • Combine 1/2 cup of hot-not boiling- water and 1/3 cup of plain oatmeal
  • After the water and oatmeal have settled for two or three minutes, mix in two tablespoons of plain yogurt (not flavored), two tablespoons of honey, and one small egg white
  • Apply a thin layer of the mask to your face
  • Let sit for 10-15 minutes then rinse with warm water

2. 5-10 minute meditation after waking up and before going to bed

  • Find a quiet, peaceful place to sit comfortably and avoid distractions such as technology
  • You can light a candle or incense
  • Play some relaxing music
  • Focus on your breathing and let your thoughts drift away
  • Continue meditating for however long you feel is necessary

3. Follow an online yoga class

  • Use Youtube to look up free online guided yoga classes
  • Find an open space in your home with a cushioned surface and relax your body and nerves

4. Give yourself a manicure/pedicure

  • Find a table or desk to sit at
  • Cover the surface of your table with napkin, paper towel or a cloth towel to protect the surface
  • Gather any equipment you can find (a nail file, nail clippers, hand lotion, hand towels to warm up, nail polish, etc.)

5. Create your own journal

  • Find an old unused notebook or notepad
  • Gather pens, pencils, markers, stickers, erasers, stamps, or anything you want to use to decorate your journal
  • Start by writing down the date
  • You can write about:
    • How you’re feeling
    • How your day was
    • What happened in your dreams
    • What your hopes are for the next couple months
    • A list of people in your life that you are grateful for
    • Anything that’s on your mind
