Gryphons stand on the St. George’s basketball court. The girls varsity basketball team won their game on Monday.

The St. George’s girls varsity basketball team won against St. Agnes Academy 47-46 on Monday, Feb. 3.

Sophomore Miaya Smith had the winning shot, a free throw with no time left on the clock, and brought the team to victory.

Meanwhile, the boys varsity team suffered a heavy 38-61 loss to Christian Brothers High School the same night.

Despite the leadership efforts from juniors, with Chase Hayden scoring 23 points and Noah Pope adding eight points, the Gryphons were unable to defeat the Waves.

CBHS standout William Douglas had 16 points and 10 assists.

The next varsity girls and boys basketball games are against Fayette Academy on Wednesday, Feb. 2, with the girls playing at 6:00p.m. and the boys playing at 7:30 p.m.
