Eight reasons why you should watch “One Tree Hill”
“One Tree Hill” is a drama series, available on Netflix, about two brothers living two different lives in Tree Hill, North Carolina who are later reunited through a love of basketball. Although there are countless reasons why you should watch the show, we narrowed our vast list down to eight reasons.
- Though “One Tree Hill” first aired over a decade ago, it still is relevant today because it deals with problems teens often face, such as suicide, eating disorders, drug and alcohol abuse, depression and feminism.
- The background music that is paired with each scene actually conveys the characters’ emotions instead of just using popular songs. There are even fan-created websites that allow you to download music from every episode. Need proof? Check out the theme song, “I Don’t Wanna Be” by Gavin DeGraw, or “Times Like These” by the Foo Fighters.
- Two words: Brooke. Davis. Our beloved Lucas Scott said it best when he said, “Brooke Davis is going to change the world someday. And I’m not sure she even knows it.” Fans appreciate her intelligence, strength, beauty, humor and integrity. Brooke Davis starts off as your typical, boy-crazy high-school cheerleader, but as she grows older, she starts her own company in her bedroom and matures to be one of the wisest characters on the show.
- There are many characters that fans have either loved or hated, but there are also a select few that we initially hated with a passion but later grew to respect. Nathan Scott, one of the main characters, went from a stereotypical jock and “bad boy” to a man with integrity and morals. We can all agree that the creator of the show, Mark Schwahn, did a beautiful job transforming the villain of the show, Dan Scott. Though fans hated him for eight seasons, he grew to be one of their favorite characters in the end, teaching us that people can change, and anyone can be forgiven.
- One ship. Two people. Naley. The love story of Nathan and Haley was marvelously written and will appeal to any girl. The two faced a mountain of problems throughout the series including infidelity and crazy nannies, but their love survived it all.
- “One Tree Hill” touched hearts with the sense of family it conveyed. One couple on the show, Nathan and Haley, are shown as not perfect parents, but parents who deeply care about their children and would do anything for them. Through other characters who have been abused and neglected in their family lives, the show taught people that family is not necessarily just your relatives, but the people you choose to surround yourself with.
- There is always something action-packed or suspenseful going down in Tree Hill. Every season has that one memorable, thrilling plotline that either had you really exhilarated and pumped or left you pausing the scene to prepare yourself for what was about to happen next. Plot lines included, but were not limited to, kidnapping, murder, assault, school shootings, car accidents, identity theft, stalkers and car chases.
- Each episode ends with a quote to wrap up the moral of that specific episode. Many fans have created twitter accounts dedicated to expressing their words of wisdom. Our personal favorite quote from the show is from season nine, episode 13, when they said, “It’s the oldest story in the world. One day you’re 17 and planning for someday. And then quietly and without you ever really noticing, someday is today. And then someday is yesterday. And this is your life.”
