General Ulysses S. Grant comes to Memphis…well, almost
Local Living Historian Dr. Curt Fields is coming to the Morton Museum of Collierville History on Wed., April 1 from 7:00-9:00pm to depict General Ulysses S. Grant. Dr. Fields’s presentation will be in first person and will include readings from General Grant’s memoirs, letters, interviews, and firsthand accounts.
According to his website, in addition to doing extensive research on the general, Dr. Fields provides an accurate representation of Grant because he is the same height and body style.
He has been selected to portray the general at numerous events, including the 150th Sesquicentennial observance of Fort Donelson and this year’s 150th anniversary of General Robert E. Lee’s surrender to Grant at the Appomattox Court House in Virginia. He also portrayed Grant in a Discovery Channel three-part documentary series titled “How Booze Built America.”
The presentation should last about 45-60 minutes, and Dr. Fields will break character afterwards to answer questions and talk about being a Living Historian and a reenactor. For additional information about the event, contact sophomore Britney Pepper.
