The St. George’s theater department was busy last season with multiple productions: “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” “To Kill a Mockingbird,” and the production of “Pied Piper,” and they are now looking forward to the upcoming “Seussical the Musical.”

The St. George’s theater troupe, known as the Producitons, will return this fall with a middle and upper school collaboration of “Seussical the Musical,” a former Broadway play based on Dr. Seuss’s classics such as “Oh, The Places You’ll Go,” “Green Eggs and Ham,” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” Marques Brown, the show’s director, said the St. George’s theater department “has officially taken the first steps to produce the fun and exciting Seussical the Musical.”

With the success of “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” last year’s musical that went on to win two awards, the Producitons have nothing but complete confidence that they will captivate their audience once again.

“[Although] it is wonderful to receive recognition and great reviews, especially in the form of community-wide awards, that is not the reason we do what we do in theatre,” said Brown when asked about Putnam’s success.

Not only will Seussical include both middle and upper school students, something that is rarely attempted due to the the difficulty of working with such a massive cast, but it is also a musical that St. George’s has produced before. Scott Duff, the St. George’s theater teacher and director before Brown, produced “Seussical the Musical” in 2010. Many of the past show’s cast members are still at St. George’s and will be participating once again.

“I would actually love to audition again because that show was a lot of fun to put on the first time, and it would be a wonderful way to begin senior year,” said senior Juliana Wall.

She also noted some of the changes that have occurred in the theater department since Seussical was last produced.

“With a new cast, director, and the rising level of talent in the theater department, I am excited to see where we take this show,” said Wall.

Junior Autumn Jones also expressed excitement.

“Since 2010, our thespian society has expanded and is full of experienced and extremely motivated actors, and I feel “Seussical the Musical” will again ‘wow’ the audience,” said Jones.

“Seussical the Musical” will allow the audience to hear the Whos with Horton, save the Earth with the Lorax, and adventure before Mum and Dad get home with the Cat in the Hat at the St. George’s Germantown campus this fall, Nov. 13, 14, and 15.
