Passing the torch

Senior athletes pass their torch to underclassmen

Jacob Still for Football: “I want to pass the torch to the whole offensive line. The offensive line is a special unit within the football team that rarely gets the attention they deserve. The next group of offensive linemen will set the tone for the success of our program. These linemen understand how to work hard everyday and how to be great teammates. They are a special group that will continue to show up willing to do anything for the betterment of the team.”

Olivia Phillips for Fall Cheer: “I want to give it to Channell Cole because she is the most passionate about the cheer team.”

Sophia Quesada for Volleyball: “Baby Kate Seabrook, because we all always knew that she was the mature one.”

Kyle Mehmed for Boys Cross Country: ”I’m passing the torch to Graham Sisson for cross country because his leadership skills are as good as his flow.”

Hunter Haase for Boys Golf: “Winston [Margaritis] because he is extremely humble and one of the best golfers to go through this program and his future is great.”

Sydney Spadafora for Girls Soccer: “Avery Whitehead for girls soccer because she is so responsible and always prepared! She also knows how to keep everyone under control even when someone gets mad over a bad call that the ref made.”

Eric Matula for Boys Basketball: “Passing the torch to Grant Poteet because he’s poised for a breakout season to lead to Gryphs to another state title and earn a Division I scholarship to a top tier basketball school”

Erica Stevenson for Winter Cheer: “Erica and JR show great leadership, Erica has been on the team since she was a freshman and they both work well together.”

William McBride for Swimming: “Sarah [Thompson]. She is an amazing swimmer. Her dedication and leadership will serve the team well this year.”

Jake Lindow for Wrestling: ”David Fisk. His strong demonstrated leadership and undeniable commitment to the sport of wrestling has allowed and will continue to allow him to develop a broad skill set that will lead not only to his own continued success, but to the success of the team as a whole in coming years.”

John Kutteh for Water Polo: ”John Barton. [His] talent and drive will prove integral in the team’s success next year.”

Hadley Allison for Trap Shooting: ”JD Hibner because he is a bro.”

Courtney Miller for Track: ”To carry on the legacy of the Gryphs’ track and field team, I am passing the torch to freshman Will Johns. His potential to lead the team and break the mile record is about as great as the length of his legs AND the size of his ego. I know he’ll do an awesome job and lead the team to success. Where there’s a ‘Will’ there’s a way.”

Claire Sullivan for Tennis: ”I am passing the tennis torch to Hannah Kate McDowell because of how enthusiastic she is on the court and ability to chant loudly.”

Olivia Rooney for Softball: ”I’m passing on the torch of being Coach Brunetti’s favorite player to Channell Cole.”

Blake Nicolia for Boys Soccer: ”I am not passing the torch to James [Harris], but I think I will give it to Jack Goodman because he has hair on his chest, and back, and arms.”

Gray Hill for Boys Lacrosse: ”Bart [Mueller] exhibits the same qualities of Paul Rabil and may be the immediate spawn of Kyle Harrison.”

Lizzie Ouellette for Girls Lacrosse: ”I am lacrosse passing the torch to Paige Marotta so she can pass on all my funny jokes, including ‘jokes by Paige.’”

Stephen East for Baseball: ”I am going to pass the torch to Graham Sisson because he is the most responsible person on the team. I thought about saying Ben Glass, but he would probably forget [or] lose the torch.”
