Here is what you need to know about the Coronavirus and how it’s affecting our community.
General:
The total number of Coronavirus cases in Shelby county has increased to 379 cases and 1,834 in the state of Tennessee
As of 3/30, over a fifth of confirmed cases in the state of Tennessee were in Shelby county
Although the rate of new cases is continuing to increase, it is slowing
Over the weekend, Shelby County had its first death related to the Coronavirus
People aged 21-30 currently have the greatest number of cases when ranked by age group
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee called on schools across the state to remain closed until April 24
“Safer at Home” Order:
As of Tuesday at 6 pm, all ‘non-essential’ businesses across Shelby County will be closed to prevent the further spread of COVID-19
This will mean that all “non-essential” workers will be asked to stay at home and not work
You will be notified by your employer if you should remain at home
The order will remain in effect until April 7; however, it may be extended due to the severity of COVID-19
People in Shelby County will also be allowed to get packages either in the mail or via FedEx/UPS
There are no curfews attached to this order
The following will be CLOSED due to the “Safer at Home” Order:
Movie theatres
Shopping Malls
Gyms
Barbershops
Nail salons
Concerts and sporting events
The following will still remain OPEN due to the “Safer at Home” Order:
Grocery stores
Doctors’ offices
Parks
Pharmacies
Restaurants (take-out only)
Veterinarian offices
