G-Eazy

G-Eazy released his third studio album on Dec. 4, but it failed to live up to the hype. While the album does have great production and dynamics throughout, it lacks in other aspects. G-Eazy has many artists featured in his songs on this record, and they tend to usually be featured at the beginning of his songs. Because of this, it feels like they are overpowering his songs, and it sometimes shifts from being his record to one that he is simply a part of. Most of G-Eazy’s songs on the album are mellow, but he does have quite a few that are upbeat. As we know, G-Eazy is known for his wit, which is evident throughout, but he also displays more depth lyrically in this record. However, there are only a couple of songs that really hit the mark and highlight his talent.

Coldplay

Coldplay never disappoints, and their new album is no exception. “A Head Full of Dreams” was released on Dec. 4, and it incorporates more of an older feel, a disco vibe mixed with pop-alternative. Coldplay’s production of their albums always impressive, but it is especially in their latest record. As the songs progress, they start building and layering instruments and sounds on top of one another to peak at the chorus, making each song a true experience for listeners. The album also features artists such as Beyonce and Tove Lo, two amazing pairings. There is also a great deal of lyrical genius inherent in this album, as always, but what is so great about Coldplay is that they tell stories through their songs. Although they went for a different sound on this record, they did not drop the ball, unlike some other artists this month.

Kid Cudi

Kid Cudi has come out of hiding and, if you were hoping for the old Kid Cudi, you are out of luck as he has switched lanes with his latest album. The former hip-hop artist is now a rock artist, and his new album, entitled “Speedin’ Bullet 2 Heaven,” is not for anyone with ears. He can produce and compose a hip-hop album like nobody’s business, but he seems to have gotten lost when producing this rock album. The music does not match the vocals, and the composition of the whole record just feels off.  If you can get past the music and actually listen to the album, I’m sure the lyrics carry some weight. However, this album makes a talented artist seem like he doesn’t know what he is doing. Simply put, I wish I never listened to this album, and I do not recommend it to anyone.
